Operation purpose and expected achievements:
The project aims at ensuring access to primary and secondary prevention health services with the goal to reduce the incidence and mortality from cervical cancer, which is classified as a public health problem in Programme area. The focus is on the transition from institutional care to approach based on community support. The project addresses primary prevention measures aimed at teenagers, adolescents and their parents, and young people up to 25 years of age. The project will systematically invest in the education of healthcare professionals, knowledge transfer and better organization of the system itself through the intensification and full implementation of the early screening and testing program.
Beneficiaries:
The Lead Partner (LP) Institute of Public Health Zadar (HR) is involved in creation, implementation, evaluation and improvement of a joint training programme schemes for community health workers, teenagers, adolescents and young people in general. Development and implementation of pilot action to effectively screen the target population is also one of the main activities to be implemented and coordinated by the LP.
Institute of Public Health of Montenegro (ME) is responsible for HPV testing of collected samples in Montenegro. These activities will be accompanied by public promotional campaigns as well as public events where testing and consultations will be held with the aim of raising awareness of the need for vaccination, testing and early screening for cervical cancer.
Health Centre Mostar (BA) will be involved in a component of the project related to the acquisition of thematic equipment for health centres (gynaecological chairs and modern ultrasound machines), which will strengthen capacities at the primary level of health care. PP3 will be responsible for the organization of Outreach information sessions for primary and secondary prevention and in-person course for health workers.
Public Health Centre Tivat (ME) will be responsible for the organization of promotional – educational events in Montenegro, and for the organization of a joint training programme for health workers and production of promotional material for targeted project area.
Mediterranean Economic Foresight Institute (HR) will work as an umbrella organization to facilitate reaching target groups, raising awareness, and changing behaviour patterns. In addition, project partner will be responsible for the overall communication activities.
Croatian Institute of Public Health (HR) is involved in the design and development of primary prevention strategy and design and development of pilot project protocol for HPV screening in Croatia within secondary prevention activities (pilot project of HPV self-sampling), which will include mapping of current HPV and cervical cancer practices and recruitment strategy of participants/target groups.
