Operation purpose and expected achievements:
The overall objective of the GIFTSnet project is to enhance sustainable cultural tourism development by investing in the conservation, sustainable valorisation, and inclusiveness of nine cultural tourism sites located in Šibenik, Karlovac (HR), Banja Luka, Trebinje (BA), Bar and Ulcinj (ME). Through green, sustainable, and nature-based investments, the project aims to develop socially inclusive cultural tourism offer and incorporate new sites into the cultural tourism circuit.
Additionally, the partnership will establish the GIFTS network of cultural tourism stakeholders aiming to support cooperative development and facilitate knowledge exchange among tourism operators in the region. The “Night of Fortresses Goes Green” event will serve as a valuable tool in promoting green standards and fostering public awareness of sustainable development principles.
Beneficiaries:
The Lead Partner (LP), Public Cultural Institution Fortress of Culture Šibenik (HR), is responsible for arranging WW2 tunnel under St. John’s Fortress in Šibenik and improving waste management system at Šibenik fortresses, supporting inclusion of visitors with disabilities in the programmes of Šibenik fortresses and implementation of cross-border capacity building workshops.
City of Banja Luka (BA) is responsible for revitalization of two Kastel Fortress towers, developing of specialized tours for children, seniors and people with disabilities in Kastel fortress and organization of GIFTS network member exchange meeting in Banja Luka.
Muninipality of Bar (ME) is responsible for restoration of the Gvadolla Bastion in the Old Bar, implementation of educational children’s art workshop at Gvadolla Bastion, organization of GIFTS network member exchange meeting in Bar and upgrading of the Night of Fortresses web site.
City of Karlovac (HR) is responsible for refurbishing the Guard Tower of Dubovec Castle, inclusion of children in educational activities on the topic of biodiversity including planting and sustaining flower meadow in Dubovac Castle and organisation of GIFTS network member exchange meeting in Karlovac.
Public institution Main Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje (BA) is responsible for conservation works in Museum of Herzegovina in Trebinje and adaptation of “open scene” in Trebinje old town, engagement of representatives of vulnerable social groups in production of souvenirs at Museum of Herzegovina, organization of GIFTS network member exchange meeting in Trebinje and organisation of project final conference.
Municipality of Ulcinj (ME) is responsible for improving accessibility and safety requirement for visitors of archaeological location of Shas in Ulcinj, developing of specialized tour for seniors and people with disabilities at archaeological site Shas and organization of project kick-off conference in Ulcinj.
