Strengthening Crossborder Solutions for Managing Allergenic Plants and Enhancing Climate Resilience (AllerShield)
Priority Axis 2: Green investments in environmental protection and efficient risk management
Operation start date: 1 July 2024
Operation completion date: 30 June 2027
Budget: EUR 807.816,00
Number of partners: 3
Operation purpose and expected achievements:
The project aims at reducing the impact of climate change and the health challenges that we face every day due to the increased allergenic pollen in the air. The project will improve the monitoring systems for allergenic pollen in the air, develop tools for assessing the time-spatial spread and occurrence of new species, and the impact of allergenic pollen on outdoor air quality indicators and indicators within the health system. Through the implementation of project activities, the project addresses and implements the planning of actions to raise public awareness and strengthen the capacity health and other sectors dealing with issues of general climate adaptation.
Beneficiaries:
The Lead Partner (LP) Institute of Public Health Zadar (HR) is responsible to ensure effective implementation of activities related to collection, analysis, processing, interpretation, and integration of selected air quality indicators, the development of educational materials, and developing a common database. LP experts will actively participate in the preparation and implementation of workshops, creation of action documents, and scientific and professional publications. Together with external experts, LP will organize education for aerobiologists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, and will contribute to the creation of an expert guide.
In addition to the training of professional staff, Institute for Protection and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska (BA) is responsible for procurement of valuable equipment for pollen sampling, air quality monitoring, laboratory equipment and agents, and vehicle for collecting samples.
Environment protection Agency of Montenegro (ME) is responsible for continued sampling and measuring of the concentration of pollen in the air. PP3 is involved in creation of various educational materials about the pattern of allergenic pollen types of distribution, the allergenicity assessment level for each pollen type, the importance of recognition and of invasive species impact significant for the environment and health, and finally, the impact of physical, chemical and biological particles on health.
