As part of the international SINERGY project, which aims to increase the energy efficiency of public facilities and reduce energy consumption in participating cities, works have begun on modernizing the lighting system of the pool and spectator stands at the Public Institution “Sports Facilities Vukovar”.

The works include replacing outdated and energy-inefficient lighting with new LED fixtures featuring adjustable light output, as well as installing lighting control equipment in the existing distribution cabinets. The new lighting system will be integrated into a central management platform, enabling different lighting scenes and modes to be programmed depending on use — from training and recreational swimming to competitions and special events.

This investment, valued at EUR 86,213.98 including VAT, brings numerous benefits to both users and the facility as a whole. LED lighting provides better illumination, higher safety, and more comfortable conditions for swimming, with improved colour rendering and significantly reduced shadows compared to halogen light sources. This will be especially beneficial for sports clubs, recreational swimmers, and all pool visitors.

The modernization will significantly reduce energy and maintenance costs for the Public Institution “Sports Facilities Vukovar”, thanks to the long lifespan of LED fixtures and a system that enables efficient energy management. At the same time, the project contributes to the environmental goals of the institution and the City of Vukovar by eliminating the need for frequent replacement of metal-halide lamps.

Upgrading the lighting system represents an important step towards more energy-efficient and sustainable management of sports facilities, while also improving service quality for all users.

The SINERGY project runs for 24 months, until 14 July 2026, with a total value of EUR 1,856,980.94, of which the European Union co-finances EUR 1,578,433.78 (85%) in grant funding. The lead partner is the City of Tuzla, and the project partners include the Municipality of Herceg Novi, the Center for Ecology and Energy from Tuzla, and the Public Institution managing the sports facilities of the City of Vukovar, “Sports Facilities Vukovar”.
