Improving Coastal Areas Resilience to Climate Change Impacts and setting up Guidelines for Sustainable Beach Stabilization and Management (ClimBeach)

Priority Axis 2: Green investments in environmental protection and efficient risk management
Operation start date: 1 September 2024
Operation completion date: 31 August 2027
Budget: EUR 1.785.195,60
Number of partners: 5

Operation purpose and expected achievements:
The ClimBeach project represents a comprehensive approach to solving problems of beach erosion and flooding caused by climate changes, with a special focus on innovative technical solutions and cross-border cooperation. The project will apply a specific monitoring system to monitor meteorological and climatic variables as well as the dynamics of sea water and volumetric changes of beaches. Also, an IT tool called BeachCloud will be developed, and it will integrate monitoring data, erosion and flood risk assessment and the results of mitigation measures. During the project implementation, an upgrade of the beach areas will be performed in all three countries in order to increase its resilience to climate changes (by following the principles of sustainable development and environmental preservation). By its activities, this project will enable better planning and sustainable management of beach areas in the involved regions.

Beneficiaries:

The Lead Partner (LP)- University of Split, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy (HR) will be in charge for development of the coastal erosion and flooding risk aseessment tool, numerical modelling activities, implementation of the numerical modelling results into Beach Cloud, and purchase of equipment  for seawater dynamics monitoring. LP will also be responsible for coordination of the communication strategy preparation and its implementation, as well as coordination of overall project activities.
