Operation purpose and expected achievements:
The SmartProtect project aims to enhance cross-border disaster resilience by implementing advanced technological solutions. Prevention and emergency management measures will be improved through combined use of contemporary technologies such as remote sensing, UAVs (drones), cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Firefighting Centre in Vučevica (HR) and Fire Brigade in Posušje (BA) will be equipped with modern command vehicles, drones, communication and digital equipment. Project partners will develop advanced training programs for emergency responders and define common procedures for equipment and data sharing during and after disaster response. Through collaborative efforts, the project will strengthen the capacity of emergency services to respond promptly and effectively to disasters.
Beneficiaries:
The Lead Partner (LP), University of Split, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture – FESB (HR) brings valuable technical expertise, research capabilities, and project management skills to the partnership. LP ensures that all project activities align with the latest disaster management practices and provides access to cutting-edge research on UAVs and advanced software technologies. The LP will also contribute to the development of training materials, manuals, and capacity-building workshops for emergency service personnel.
Split-Dalmatia County – SDC (HR) plays an active role in defining common strategy and procedures for preventive activities, participates in pilot initiatives and ensures project visibility. PP2 will equip the Firefighting Command Centre at the Vučevica location with state-of-the-art communication and digital equipment, procure new off-road command vehicle, and upgrade existing command vehicle with advanced technologies for improved disaster coordination.
Municipality of Posušje (BA) participates in pilot actions for preventive activities, collaborates with emergency services and ensures that all activities are tailored to address the unique disaster risks in the West Herzegovina region. PP3 is primarily focused on setting up and equipping the Firefighting Command Centre in Posušje. The Centre will be equipped with drones, communication sets, and a new command vehicle enhanced with cutting-edge technology for improved disaster coordination.
