Three new agrometeorological stations have been installed in the Konavle region as part of the Crossmart project, which is co-financed by European Union funds through the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Croatia–Bosnia and Herzegovina–Montenegro.

These stations enable real-time monitoring of key environmental parameters, including leaf wetness and canopy temperature, rainfall levels, air temperature and relative humidity, as well as soil temperature and moisture at two depths (20 cm and 40 cm). They also record wind speed and direction, and provide access to weather forecasts.

The stations have been strategically placed in Lovorno Field (vineyard), Dunave (olive grove), and Stravča (arable land). Data is transmitted via GPRS and can be accessed through the mobile application Pinove Mobile (available at doc.pinova.hr/mobile; access credentials: info@opcinakonavle.hr, password: 65696858).

These agrometeorological stations represent the initial set of equipment to be provided by the Municipality of Konavle through the Crossmart project. Further equipment to be delivered includes a smart insect trap, a drone, and two state-of-the-art laboratories for quality control of wine and olive oil. The laboratories will be housed within the Konavle Rural Centre, which is currently being renovated using project funds in the former fire station building in Gruda.

The primary goal of the Crossmart project is to enhance innovation capacity among local farmers by enabling access to and use of advanced agricultural technologies, particularly for quality monitoring in the production of wine and olive oil.

Additionally, the project will establish a joint Crossmart digital platform to serve as a foundation for the development of smart agriculture across the cross-border region.

The project is funded under the Interreg IPA CBC Programme Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro and brings together six partners: the Entrepreneurship Centre of Dubrovnik-Neretva County (lead partner), the Municipality of Konavle, the Office for European Integration of the Central Bosnia Canton, the Municipality of Tuzi, the University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture, and the Association for Economic Development REDAH.

The total project budget amounts to EUR 1,516,844.60, with the Municipality of Konavle’s share amounting to EUR 507,780.00.
