As part of the international project “Sport Facilities Green Energy – SINERGY“, educational sessions and trainings focusing on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources were successfully conducted in Tuzla, Vukovar, and Herceg Novi. Funded by the European Union through the Interreg VI-A IPA Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027 program, the project brings together local communities and sports centers to enhance sustainability and strengthen capacities for rational energy resource management.
Herceg Novi: Theory and Practice at the Igalo Sports CenterThree specialized trainings were held at the “Ivan Goran Kovačić” School Center and the “Igalo” Sports Center, targeting various groups—from young athletes and local government representatives to sports center staff. The focus was on implementing concrete energy efficiency measures, such as replacing outdated lighting with modern LED systems and installing DMX systems for smart lighting control.
“The olive tree we planted in front of the center symbolizes growth, resilience, and sustainability—exactly what the SINERGY project brings to our community,” highlighted representatives from the Municipality of Herceg Novi.
Experts from the Center for Ecology and Energy Tuzla, Džemila Agić and Vanja Rizvić, introduced participants to topics on smart technologies, energy savings, and the importance of individual active roles in the energy transition.
Vukovar: Education Focused on Energy-Efficient Swimming PoolIn Vukovar, educational sessions were held at the premises of the Public Institution “Sports Facilities Vukovar,” with participation from sports club members, students, employees, and local institution representatives. Participants were presented with energy renovation measures for the Vukovar Swimming Pool, including plans to install heat pumps and LED lighting, which will lead to significant energy savings and CO₂ emission reductions.
“The knowledge gained from these trainings is crucial for developing an energy-conscious community and serves as an incentive to apply similar measures in all public institutions,” stated representatives from Vukovar.
The trainings facilitated experience sharing, demonstrated the use of software tools for consumption optimization, and encouraged local stakeholders to take concrete steps toward sustainability.
Tuzla: Focus on SKPC “Mejdan” and Future GenerationsAs the leading project partner, Tuzla conducted educational sessions at the Dramar Center, gathering over 100 participants, including young athletes, students, sports facility employees, and public institution representatives. During the workshops, planned measures for the SKPC “Mejdan” were presented, with the most significant being the replacement of the glass facade, which will contribute to substantial energy consumption reduction.
“Our goal is to empower employees and young people through education to understand and participate in creating sustainable sports facilities,” stated representatives from the City of Tuzla.
Special attention was given to presenting software solutions for monitoring consumption, managing heating and lighting systems, and showcasing best practices transferable to other facilities.
Through theoretical and practical education, the SINERGY project strengthens the foundations for an energy-responsible future in the region.
Three cities – one goal: a sustainable, efficient, and educated community ready for the energy challenges of the 21st century.
