On May 14, 2018 in Kladanj, the energy efficient school was ceremonially opened, reconstructed within the crossborder project „Innovative minds for smart schools“ or abbreviated „SMART SCHOOLS“. It is a mixed high school „Musa Ćazim Ćatić“ Kladanj which became the first „SMART school“ in Tuzla canton within this project.
In previous period, at the school building „Musa Ćazim Ćatić“ thermal insulation was installed to the external walls, as well as new joinery and new roof cover – sandwich tin sheet. Total value of these works was above 300.000 KM.
The reconstructed school was ceremonially opened by the prime minister of Tuzla Canton Mr Jakub Suljkanović.
˝Public Institution Mixed High School „Musa Ćazim Ćatić“ in Kladanj is the first of six school buildings in Tuzla Canton where we managed to complete all the planned activities. From the aspect of Tuzla Canton government, project co-funding by international funds pushes us to start faster and more efficiently certain reconstruction, renewal and construction processes within some infrastructure projects. At the same time, through co-funding of such projects, we can provide from the international funds the significant financial resources which otherwise would have to be allocated from our national, regional and local budgets“, said the prime minister of TC Mr Jakub Suljkanović.
The school director Mr Muriz Halilović emphasised the importance of school reconstruction for students, professor and parents by saying: „I could talk for days about the importance of energy efficiency and this project. The best indicators of successful project are the students who recorded the least absences from school caused by flu this year; very warm school premises, excellent and enthusiastic comments of employees who have worked in this school for many years and who remembered the winter period when it was practically impossible to work“.
After the ceremonial opening of the reconstructed school, the round table was held about: „Effects and potentials of energy efficiency in public sector“. The following stakeholders participated at the round table: prime minister of Tuzla Canton, representatives of the relevant ministries in TC government, representatives of Brod-Posavina County (RC), mayor of Kladanj municipality, representatives of municipal departments, representatives of public enterprises from Kladanj, non-governmental organisations, media representatives, project team members and school management.
At the meeting, among other issues, the representatives discussed the strategic focus of TC government to energy efficiency as well as co-funding opportunities for such and similar projects from the budget. From economic aspect, the energy efficiency is a potential for significant economic development of the canton.
In the following period, the governments of Tuzla Canton and Brod-Posavina County shall work intensively in energy efficiency segment with emphasis on crossborder cooperation between the two project regions.
Energy reconstruction of school is implemented within 3.2 million worth crossborder cooperation project. The project is funded within INTERREG IPA CBC programme Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Monte Negro 2014.-2020. The project is implemented by: the Centre for Development and Support (CRP) from Tuzla, the government of Tuzla Canton, the government of Brod-Posavina County, the association Green Action from Zagreb and Brod Ecological Society (BED) from Slavonski Brod.
