Within the project Protecting underwater heritage through its digitalization and valorization as a novel touristic offer – WRECKS4ALL, co-financed through the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2014-2020, the training “Digital documentation of underwater cultural heritage” was held in Budva from 26 to 30 November 2021, with additional two days of online lecturing.
The aim of the training was to develop knowledge and skills in digital documentation using 3D photogrammetry. The participants were recreational diving services providers as well as representatives of the underwater cultural heritage protection and navigation control institutions, more precisely 10 scuba divers and 4 trainers.
The most important part of the training was development of the practical skills in 3D photogrammetric documentation. The participants used different methods of the 3D models production and processing in several computer programs. They made the comparison, production of orthophotos, digital elevation models and their use in GIS, as well as the use of 3D models for promotion in the context of virtual museums. One day was devoted to practicing underwater photo scanning with underwater cameras and ROVs.
The participants were carefully selected from the tourism sector and institutions related to underwater cultural heritage to exchange, collect, process, study and promote services using 3D models of underwater cultural heritage and thus its digital preservation and awareness-raising.
