Institute for Adriatic Crops and Karst Reclamation from Split, as the Project Partner on the project “Enhancing competitiveness of olive production in the program area through cross border cooperation” – COOPeR, organized a 2-day joint cross-border education “Workshop for Olive Growers“ from 13-14 May 2022.
The aim of the workshop, which was attended by 35 participants, was to foster the transfer of knowledge and technologies in the olive sector in order to improve the capacities and productivity of local farmers. The participants were olive growers, olive oil mill operators, academic experts in this field, and other stakeholders from all three countries involved in the implementation of the project.
During the first day of the workshop, on 13 May, the participants had the opportunity to visit olive orchards in Skradin and Kaštela and learn about main olive tree varieties cultivated in this area, different pruning techniques and other orchard management practices targeted towards optimizing plantation productivity.
The second day of the workshop was organized at Hotel Briig in Split focusing mainly on soil management practices in olive orchards, olive pest control, and the effects of storage conditions on the quality of olive oil. The presentations were delivered by experts from Institute for the Adriatic Crops and Karst Reclamation and all participants expressed great satisfaction with the concept of the education, lecturers, and knowledge transferred.
COOPeR is implemented within the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2014-2020. The project is co-financed by ERDF and IPA II funds of the European Union.
