The final conference of the project LAB-OP – Improvement of the laboratory and diagnostic system, co-financed from the INTERREG IPA CBC Programme Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2014-2020, was held on 9 September 2022 in the General Hospital Zadar.
In opening speech, the director of the General Hospital Zadar, Željko Čulina, MD highlighted the achieved results of the project, which made it possible to provide better health care to patients in partner hospital institutions. Šime Erlić, State Secretary of the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds, emphasized the importance of health institutions participating in the application and implementation of projects, and announced that new calls for application of EU projects will be launched soon.
The final conference gathered representatives of all partner institutions such as Igor Karišik, MD director of PHI General Hospital “Blažo Orlandić” Bar, Zoran Škrgatić, MD director of the Institute for Public Health Zadar and Vasilija Broćeta from the Ministry of Labour, Health, Social Welfare and Deportees of Herceg-Bosnia County and it was an excellent opportunity for presentation of all achievements.
The specific goal of the LAB-OP project is to improve the quality of public health services in the cross-border area through increasing the efficiency of laboratory diagnostics, and improving the infrastructure and enhancing human capacities in the field of laboratory diagnostics with the aim of improving the level of service provided. The defined goal was achieved despite the pandemic, which significantly hampered the implementation of the project. The project enabled a total of 91,854 patients to receive better quality health care. The project ensured the additional education for 151 health professionals from hospitals and health centers.
The implementation of joint activities in the programme area contributed to a positive impact on health workers and patients who gravitate to this area. After the official part, the networking of the participants followed with a pertinent refreshment, which was prepared by the host General Hospital Zadar in their new hospital restaurant.
