An award ceremony of the competition „Change habits, equip school“ was held in the High School Matija Antun Reljković in Slavonski Brod on 18 May 2022 within project Smart Schools 2, co-funded through the Interreg IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina-Montenegro 2014-2020. This competition promoted energy efficiency and resulted with energy savings in primary and high schools of Tuzla Canton and Brod-Posavina County. 33.132 students and employees from 118 primary and high schools took a part in the competition held from 1 December 2021 to 31 March 2022.
During the four-month competition, all participants saved energy and water only by changing their behaviour, without any additional finance investments and the participating schools achieved significant energy and environmental savings. Total energy savings (heat, electricity and water consumption) are 58.998,16 kilowatt hours (kWh), which is reduction in energy consumption by 2,75% compared to the same period of the previous year. As a result of energy savings in all competition categories, total carbon dioxide reduction is 39,39 tCO2.
The Industrial-Craft School Slavonski Brod from Brod-Posavina County generated the biggest savings, while the Primary School Grivice (Banovići) and the Primary School Vražići (Čelić) from Tuzla Canton were announced as winners due to identical results. The winner schools shall be awarded with installation of Central Energy Management System (CEMS). Installation of CEMS and training for school employees and students about system management shall be done in October 2022, enabling schools to generate even bigger energy savings in future.
Also, at educational platform for primary and high school students, all participants had the opportunity to adopt new knowledge about energy efficiency and other related topics, as well as demonstrate the knowledge they gained by participating consequently in the quizzes at the same platform.
Ten most successful quiz participants (5 from Brod-Posavina County and 5 from Tuzla Canton) have been awarded with the solar back pack.
