A two-day training on the use of the PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) communication method for children with verbal communication difficulties, especially those with autism spectrum disorders, was held in Slavonski Brod as part of the “HEARTS” project.
The training was attended by professionals from healthcare and social institutions from Žepče, Vukovar-Srijem County, and Podgorica. It was led by certified PECS trainer Andrew Yates from Pyramid Educational Consultants and organized by the “PIKTOGRAM” education and counseling service.
Participants gained practical skills in applying the six phases of PECS, with a focus on functional communication and the creation of communication cards. Upon completion, they received internationally recognized certificates.
This training is part of the “HEARTS” project, which aims to improve access to healthcare and social services and strengthen professional capacities in the cross-border region.
