As part of the “Waterlink” project, a laboratory essential for water quality control for the Municipality of Konavle and Konavosko komunalno društvo d.o.o., valued at EUR 183,152.01, has been procured and was opened today.
The laboratory has been installed within the water treatment plant building in Molunat and will significantly contribute to the main objective of the project, which is to improve the management of the water supply system in terms of water quality control and reduction of losses in the cross-border water supply system. The procurement of this valuable and modern laboratory is extremely important for all users of the system from a safety perspective, as it ensures that daily tests and analyses of the water quality from the Konavle water supply system are carried out in the best possible way and using modern technology.

In addition to the laboratory, the Waterlink project has already established a GIS database containing the mapped pipelines by material and profile, as well as water supply network structures (reservoirs, valve and meter chambers, connections, pressure regulators, pumping station). Temporary DMA zones, users’ addresses and existing measuring points have been entered, as well as those established during field visits. In practical terms, this enables the identification of water losses by measuring zones, calibration of the existing state model based on the measurements carried out, and preparation of a water balance for the measured and planned consumption zones.
Furthermore, a plan of measuring points and accompanying activities has been established, focusing on improving the management of the main system from the control centre and on introducing additional control and management points. Therefore, additional measuring equipment for flow and pressure has been installed in Plata, specifically a device for measuring reservoir levels and a device for measuring water turbidity, as well as flow meters in Močići, Čilipi, Cavtat and Dunave. Moreover, within the project activities, project and technical documentation is being prepared for the interconnection of the eastern and western water supply systems in Konavle. This is also extremely important in terms of the security of water supply, as the implementation of this project will enable Konavle to ensure an alternative water supply source, either from the Duboka Ljuta spring or from the Ljuta spring, for the entire area of Konavle.

In addition, the project has financed the purchase of a VW Amarok field vehicle, worth EUR 49,762.72, which will be used by Konavosko komunalno društvo d.o.o. for inspections and interventions on the water supply system.
The project is being implemented in partnership with the City of Trebinje and the Water and Sewerage Utility of Herceg Novi, and the main objective of the project is to establish water quality control and further reduce water losses in the entire interconnected cross-border water supply area.
The “Waterlink” project, with its full title “Smart and Innovative Management Practices for Preservation of Regional Water Quality and Supply”, is financed under the Interreg VI-A IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027.
The total value of the project is EUR 1,639,945.20, of which 85% represents EU non-refundable funds. The budget of the Municipality of Konavle amounts to EUR 535,752.00, and the project duration is 24 months.
