Operation purpose and expected achievements:
The DIABEYES project aims to strengthen the prevention, early detection, and management of diabetes and diabetes-related eye diseases in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro by introducing innovative digital health solutions, enhancing professional capacities, and improving access to preventive healthcare services. The project addresses common cross-border challenges related to the increasing prevalence of diabetes, insufficient early diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy, limited access to specialised screening services, and the lack of integrated digital systems supporting preventive healthcare. Planned activities include the procurement of advanced ophthalmological and diagnostic equipment, the development of an digital platform for diabetic retinopathy screening and patient monitoring, the implementation of joint screening programmes, professional training and study visits for healthcare professionals, public awareness campaigns, and the preparation of common protocols and educational materials for diabetes prevention and management. Through investments in innovative technologies, digital transformation, capacity building, and cross-border cooperation, the project will strengthen the capacities of healthcare institutions and public health organisations to improve early diagnosis, reduce preventable vision loss, promote healthy lifestyles, and contribute to more resilient and patient-centred healthcare systems across the Programme area.
