FIRST WORKSHOPS HELD IN MOSTAR AND SPLIT WITHIN SLEEP MEDICINE PROJECT

Within the framework of the SLEEP MEDICINE project, four workshops on Sleep Medicine were held, two of which on 6 February in Mostar and two on 7 February in Split. Sleep Medicine is a medical field of an increasing importance for human health, bearing in mind the growing number of often unknown and undiagnosed, and therefore untreated patients with sleep disorders.
The first workshops held in Mostar and Split were aimed at sleep nursing specialists, with the following featured topics: Sleep disorders encountered at the Sleep Medicine Centre; Neurophysiology of sleep and wakefulness; Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), Prevalence, Diagnosis and Therapy; Surgical treatment of OSA; OSA and driver’s dormancy; Treatment of moderate OSA with intraoral splint. A total of 47 medical professionals from western Bosnia and Herzegovina attended this workshop in Mostar, and 22 from Southern Croatia attended the workshop in Split.
Other workshops held in both cities were intended for the general public. The following topics were presented at these workshops: Access to a patient with Insomnia; Sleep disorders; How to recognize patients with sleep disorder. Following the presentation of these topics, interested individuals in the audience asked questions and shared their experiences related to the theme. The workshop in Mostar was attended by 178 people from the area of western Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the workshop in Split was attended by 57 people from southern Croatia.
The invited speakers at all workshops were: prim. Dr. Danilo Hodoba from Psychiatric Clinic Vrapče; prof. dr. sc. Zoran Đogaš, dean of the Split School of Medicine, project manager of SLEEP MEDICINE and the Sleep Medicine Center in Split; prof. dr. sc. Maja Valić; prof. dr. sc. Renata Pecotić; doc. dr. sc. Tea Galić from the Split School of Medicine and prof. dr. sc. Goran Račić, a sleep medicine specialist.
