The SMART SCHOOLS projects tackles common cross-border problems of low renewable energy share, energy inefficient public buildings, a small number of green jobs in the economy and coal dominance in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s energy sector which causes pollution in the cross-border area. Furthermore, the project addresses not only the problems but root causes of aforementioned obstacles as well. A solution will be provided by involving decision makers, motivating them to introduce innovations and raising awareness among the general public. SMART SCHOOL’s main objective is to contribute to sustainable growth in the project area by increasing energy efficient measures and introducing renewable energy sources. Project outputs include 7 energy renovated schools and new biomass-heating, 2 School Solar Labs and 20 prototypes made by student innovators. Special attention will be given to change behaviour of target groups and ensure less energy consumption.
Association Centre for Development and Support (BA) is the project’s lead partner which will implement training seminars for energy managers in both Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and coordinate with other partners the energy-saving school contest and IT students’ contest.
Green Action (CRO), with the help of the lead partner, will organise the energy-saving school contest and IT-innovation students’ contest. Green Action will take the task of organizing the Youth Innovation Camp, an event lasting several days during which young innovators will work on new energy efficient tools.
Brod-Posavina County (CRO) will acquire the solar photovoltaic system as part of the Solar Lab’ equipment that will be set up in the County. The partner will actively work on involving school authorities from Brod-Posavina County to participate in the energy-saving contest.
Tuzla Canton (BA) will work on the energy-saving contest as well but will motivate schools from the Bosnian and Herzegovinian side of the project area to participate in the activity.
Brod Ecological Society – BED (CRO) will organize project events in Brod-Posavina County, such as the energy managers training.
A Cross-border Youth Camp for Renewable Energy Innovators was organised in Brod-Posavina County. Young innovators improved their energy efficient prototypes, learned renewable energy principles and had fun in this week-long event focused on teaching students about energy efficiency.
2 trainings were held for 40 energy managers of public institutions of the cross-border. area The trainings aim to teach energy management practices and contribute to energy savings.
