The CrossWaste project has turned this idea into practical results in the cross-border communities of Borovo and Brod, combining sustainable construction waste management, environmental education and community participation.
In Borovo, construction waste from the demolition of an old municipal building was crushed using equipment procured through the project, recycled and reused to improve a local field road. The former demolition site was then cleaned and transformed into a modern children’s playground, giving the space a completely new purpose for children, families and the wider community.
CrossWaste also invested in environmental awareness. Preschool children, pupils and young people in Borovo and Brod took part in creative workshops, educational activities, recycling and waste collection initiatives. Earth Day activities in Brod brought together children, municipal employees, public institutions and the local utility company to clean public spaces, plant flowers and promote responsible behaviour towards the environment.
By turning waste into a resource, abandoned spaces into community assets and learning into action, CrossWaste demonstrates how cross-border cooperation can deliver visible and lasting benefits for local communities.
These activities are part of the CrossWaste project, implemented within the Interreg VI-A IPA Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027 Programme.
