Our ClimBeach project is advancing coastal monitoring in Montenegro with the procurement and installation of two Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) devices by JP Morsko dobro (JPMD) at Plavi Horizonti Beach in Tivat and Veliki Pijesak Beach in Bar.

Installed on the seabed, the devices use acoustic technology to measure the speed and direction of sea currents and collect data on wave characteristics. The information gathered will help improve understanding of sediment movement, beach stability and shoreline changes, providing a stronger evidence base for measures to prevent and mitigate coastal erosion.

Improving Coastal Monitoring and Erosion Prevention

The new equipment represents an important step towards strengthening the monitoring of coastal processes and supporting more informed coastal management. Reliable data on sea currents and wave characteristics can help identify factors contributing to beach erosion and inform the development of appropriate protection measures, particularly in the context of climate change.

Monitoring activities will also extend to Utjeha Beach in Bar and Ričardova Glava Beach in Budva. Together with the other monitoring locations, these activities contribute to the project’s coverage of six beaches along the Montenegrin coast, including Jaz and Pizana.

Supporting Sustainable Coastal Management

Funded bunder our Programme, our ClimBeach project aims to strengthen coastal monitoring and protection and promote sustainable approaches to coastal zone management.

By combining modern monitoring technologies with data-driven planning, the project contributes to a better understanding of coastal changes and supports efforts to protect the Adriatic coastline and strengthen its resilience to climate change.
