The historic “Branič Tower” at the Old Town of Dubovac has entered a new chapter. At the close of 2025, a comprehensive interior renovation was completed as part of the GIFTSnet – Network for Green and Inclusive Fortified Tourism Solutions project, breathing new life into one of Karlovac’s most significant heritage landmarks.

The works, which began in June 2025, focused on restoring the tower’s historic character while equipping it with modern infrastructure. Drywall partitions were removed and original walls carefully restored, with hand-applied plaster used to recreate an authentic historical appearance. Floor surfaces were renovated and fitted with parquet, the staircase was restored, and new joinery installed. The upgrade also included the installation of contemporary electrical systems, lighting, fire protection, and video surveillance.

The total value of the renovation reached €202,465.04, of which €147,900 was co-financed through the GIFTSnet project. Construction works were carried out by Gramont Goršić, with subcontractor Obrt Elektrocentar.

With the renovation complete, Branič Tower is once again open to visitors and is set to host a new permanent exhibition prepared by the Museums of the City of Karlovac.

GIFTSnet is implemented under the Interreg IPA Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027 programme. Launched on 15 September 2024, the project will run until 14 March 2027. It is led by the Public Institution Fortress of Culture Šibenik, in partnership with the City of Banja Luka, Municipality of Bar, City of Karlovac, Public Institution Museum of Herzegovina Trebinje, and the Municipality of Ulcinj.

With a total budget of €2,244,442.80 — 85 percent of which is co-financed by the Interreg IPA programme — GIFTSnet seeks to strengthen cross-border cooperation and promote the sustainable preservation and interpretation of fortified cultural heritage across Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro.
