The ROMANICA project, “Roman Heritage in the Cross-Border Region: Connecting Past and Present”, was officially launched at its Kick-off Conference in Podgorica on October 8. The University of Montenegro’s Centre for Archaeology, IIMS, organised the event.
The conference brought together project partners and stakeholders from the tourism, cultural heritage and scientific sectors. Lead Partner representatives presented the project structure, intervention logic and expected results. Partners outlined their contributions to local cultural heritage and tourism, and to joint research, conservation and interpretation of Roman heritage across Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. Speakers highlighted non-invasive research, digital mapping and scanning of underwater sites, accessible interpretation, community engagement and sustainable cultural tourism.
ROMANICA is led by the University of Zadar, with the City of Biograd na Moru, the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar, the Franciscan Museum Tomislavgrad, the University of Montenegro and the Municipality of Budva.
The two-year project has a total budget of EUR 1,836,681.60, including EUR 1,561,179.36 in EU co-funding under the Interreg VI-A IPA Programme Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027.
