Last week Vukovar hosted a series of activities implemented within the international project “Sport Facilities Green Energy – SINERGY”, which connects partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Montenegro with the aim of improving the energy efficiency of public sports infrastructure and strengthening cross-border cooperation.

As part of the project, the two-day event “Games Without Borders” was held at the Vukovar swimming pools, bringing together a large number of participants and visitors through sports competitions, social gatherings, and promotional activities. The event once again demonstrated how sport can serve as a platform for connecting local communities, promoting healthy lifestyles, and raising awareness about sustainable development.

In addition to the sports programme, a conference dedicated to energy efficiency was held in Vukovar, during which the results of infrastructure investments implemented through the SINERGY project were presented. Special emphasis was placed on the modernization of sports infrastructure and the application of energy-efficient solutions contributing to reduced energy consumption, lower maintenance costs, and decreased environmental impact.

During the conference, the newly upgraded energy-efficient infrastructure at the facilities of Sportski objekti Vukovar was presented, where modernization measures and improvements to the energy efficiency systems of sports facilities were implemented.

As part of the event, an official reception of the delegation of Tuzla was also held in Vukovar, led by Mayor Zijad Lugavić. Representatives of partner institutions discussed the implementation of the project to date, future activities, and possibilities for continuing cooperation on sustainable development and energy transition projects.

The SINERGY project is implemented by City of Tuzla as the lead partner, together with Sportski objekti Vukovar, as well as Municipality of Herceg Novi and Center for Ecology and Energy. The project is implemented through the Interreg VI-A IPA Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027 programme. The total project value amounts to EUR 1,856,980.94, of which the European Union finances 85 percent. The project runs until 14 July 2026.

Through a combination of infrastructure investments, educational activities, conferences, and promotional campaigns, the SINERGY project demonstrates how regional cooperation can contribute to the creation of more sustainable and energy-efficient public facilities, while also strengthening ties between cities and institutions from the three participating countries.
