A kickoff meeting for the MoWaCLIM project took place at the end of October in Metković. This project, co-funded with 85% through the INTERREG VI-A IPA Programme Croatia-Bosnia and Herzegovina-Montenegro, with a total value of €1,514,937.44 aims to tackle soil salinization in the Neretva Valley.

MoWaCLIM is focused on preserving and strengthening agriculture, the area’s second most important economic sector after tourism. During the meeting, partners discussed the history of salinization in the Neretva Delta, presented local plant characteristics affected by salinity and highlighted sustainable water management and biodiversity monitoring as crucial to addressing climate change.

The project started in September 2024 and will last for three years. The partnership includes Dubrovnik-Neretva County, the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Geodesy at the University of Split, the Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management of the Herzegovina-Neretva County, and the Hutovo Blato Nature Park.
