The SMART DeCARB project represents one of the most significant steps towards the energy transition and decarbonisation of public buildings in the region. It builds on the cooperation with REGEA initiated through the CSSC Lab project, which focused on the integration of renewable energy sources, energy storage, and smart energy management systems. The knowledge and experience gained through that project have been further applied within SMART DeCARB, with a strong emphasis on implementation and investment.

Through its activities, the SMART DeCARB project developed tools for energy data management and the optimisation of decarbonisation solutions for buildings. One of the project’s most significant achievements is the pilot investment implemented at the headquarters of IEC Tehnopolis in Nikšić.

As part of the investment, five rooftop solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 90 kW were installed at Tehnopolis. The individual capacities of the systems are 30 kW, 25 kW, 15 kW, 10 kW, and 10 kW. In addition, two electric vehicle charging stations and a battery energy storage system were installed, representing a major step towards improving the energy efficiency and sustainability of the facility.

Following the completion of the public procurement procedure, the installation of the rooftop solar power plants was completed, and the Provisional Acceptance was signed on March 30, 2026. The system has been installed, while the commissioning and connection to the distribution network are currently in progress. The total contract value for the installation of the rooftop solar power plants amounted to EUR 104,979.09.
