The Development Association NERDA successfully implemented a three-day field training titled “Birdwatching as a Factor of Tourism in the Development of Local Communities” within the PA.CON II project.
The training was conducted at several important locations – Livno (Livanjsko Polje, Lištansko Lake, the Sturba River, and the source of the Bistrica River in Hum), Blidinje Nature Park (Blidinje Lake), Buško Blato (Buško Lake), as well as Ramsko Lake. These sites represent exceptionally valuable habitats for numerous bird species and offer significant potential for the development of birdwatching tourism.

Over the three days, participants engaged in practical fieldwork, observed birds in their natural habitats, attended expert lectures, and exchanged experiences. They had the opportunity to learn techniques for bird observation and identification, explore the specific characteristics of the mentioned locations, and gain insight into the possibilities for developing tourism products based on natural resources.
A special focus of the training was on strengthening capacities for the development of sustainable and market-recognised tourism products. Participants acquired practical knowledge on designing and promoting birdwatching offers in line with sustainability principles, thus contributing to the enhancement of local tourism offerings and community development.
The training was delivered by experienced experts in tourism and birdwatching, who, through modern methodological approaches and practical examples, highlighted the importance of this form of tourism.
Participants included students in tourism and related disciplines, future tour guides, as well as representatives of organizations active in nature protection.

The implementation of this training represents a significant step towards strengthening competencies in the tourism sector and valorising natural resources through sustainable development models.
This training is part of a seven-day programme titled “Birdwatching as a Factor of Tourism in the Development of Local Communities.”
The project is co-financed through the Interreg VI-A IPA CBC Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027 Programme, funded by the European Union through ERDF and IPA III funds. The project started on 1 September 2024 and will last 27 months.
