A final conference of the international project “Sport Facilities Green Energy – SINERGY” was held in Herceg Novi, accompanied by a presentation of the investments implemented at the Sports Centre Igalo. The project is being implemented within the framework of the Interreg VI-A IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina – Montenegro 2021–2027 and will continue until July 15, 2026.
During the conference, project partners presented the results achieved in Herceg Novi, Tuzla and Vukovar, where a series of investments improved sports facilities, introduced energy-efficient solutions and created conditions for more sustainable management of public infrastructure. Participants emphasized that SINERGY represents an excellent example of successful cross-border cooperation, bringing together three cities and three countries around a common goal – the development of energy-efficient sports infrastructure and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

In Herceg Novi, more than EUR 360,000 was invested in the modernization of the Sports Centre Igalo. The project included the installation of new LED lighting in the sports hall and auxiliary sports grounds, the implementation of an advanced DMX lighting management system, and the installation of a smart bench with an information totem. As a result of these investments, electricity consumption at the Sports Centre Igalo was reduced by more than 56 percent, while conditions for athletes, recreational users and visitors were significantly improved.
In Tuzla, one of the largest investments within the project was completed through the reconstruction of the glass façade of the Sports, Cultural and Business Centre Mejdan, valued at approximately EUR 480,000. The project also included the installation of new LED lighting and a digital display, the installation of a smart bench with an information totem, and the creation of educational murals promoting renewable energy sources and sustainable development. These investments significantly improved the facility’s energy performance, reduced energy losses and created better conditions for sports, cultural and public events.
In Vukovar, investments exceeding EUR 470,000 were implemented through the installation of new LED lighting at the city swimming pool, the introduction of two heat pumps and the modernization of heating and cooling systems in sports facilities. These measures contribute to substantial reductions in energy consumption and CO₂ emissions while improving conditions for athletes and facility users. As part of the project, the “Games Without Borders” event was also organized, bringing together participants from all three partner cities and further strengthening regional cooperation and youth engagement.

Following the conference, a ceremonial event was held at the Sports Centre Igalo to showcase the completed investments. Participants were presented with the achieved results, while special attention was given to the presentation of the new energy-efficient LED lighting system and a tour of the modernized facilities. On this occasion, the Director of the Sports Centre Igalo, Radovan Ralević, presented plaques to project coordinators and partners in recognition of their contribution to the successful implementation of project activities.
The SINERGY project brought together partners from Tuzla, Herceg Novi, Vukovar and the Centre for Ecology and Energy Tuzla. In addition to infrastructure investments, the project included educational and promotional activities, study visits, the development of software for monitoring energy and water consumption, and the preparation of joint action plans for improving energy efficiency in sports facilities.
Project partners emphasized that the results achieved so far provide a strong foundation for future joint initiatives aimed at sustainable development, energy efficiency and improving the quality of life of citizens throughout the region.
