On 4 November 2024 the Kick-off conference of the cross-border cooperation project “Improving waste management infrastructure and mainstreaming 10 Rs of circular economy for sustainable development of Ulcinj, Vinkovci and Orasje – R10D3” was held in Vinkovci. The Lead Partner is the City of Orašje, while the City of Vinkovci and the Municipality of Ulcinj are project partners.
The overall project’s objective is to contribute to fostering smart, green and inclusive development of the cross-border region through improvements in communal services, facilities and equipment in the cross-border partnership area (Ulcinj, Orašje and Vinkovci). To achieve the project and programme objectives and results, the project plans to deliver improvements in waste management infrastructure through the procurement and installation of 43 semi-underground containers for separate waste collection in Vinkovci, the procurement of a combined excavator for Ulcinj and the construction of a recycling yard in Orašje. Moreover, to increase awareness and knowledge of the relevant actors and the general population on the importance of transitioning to the circular economy, the project partners will implement joint trainings for relevant actors and elementary school kids, create a joint Circular economy action plan, deliver innovative solutions in their respective regions through the creation of a cross-border „WasteOut“ mobile application and the installation of digital semi-underground recycling containers through a pilot project.
The conference included the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation by the mayors of the three partner institutions along with representatives of waste management companies from Ulcinj, Vinkovci and Orašje and the minister of Ministry of Transport, Communications and Environmental Protection of Posavina County. Also, the conference was attended by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds, Kristina Bilić, who solemnly handed over the Agreement on co-financing the implementation of this EU funded project.
