As part of the „Sport Facilities Green Energy “- SINERGY project, symbolic “project trees” were planted in the three partner cities of Herceg Novi, Vukovar, and Tuzla. This joint activity signifies the commencement of a new project phase focused on implementing concrete measures to improve the energy efficiency of sports facilities within the region. The tree, a universal symbol of strength, longevity, and sustainable development, was chosen to visually represent the values promoted by the SINERGY project.
Herceg Novi: The Olive Tree as a Symbol of Growth and Sustainability
In Herceg Novi, an olive tree was planted in front of the Igalo Sports Center, symbolizing strength, longevity, and sustainable development. The olive tree embodies the growth and durability of the project, mirroring how SINERGY contributes to enhancing the energy efficiency of sports facilities and promoting renewable energy sources.
Planned activities in Igalo include replacing outdated metal halide lighting with modern LED systems, which will significantly reduce electricity consumption and CO₂ emissions.
“We expect up to 60% savings in electricity consumption, and the new lighting will also contribute to a healthier environment for athletes and visitors. This project is of great importance to our city,” stated Emilija Knežević, representative of the Municipality of Herceg Novi.
Vukovar: Focus on the Olympic Swimming Pool
In Vukovar, the tree planting marked the beginning of energy renovation at the city’s swimming pool – a facility of special importance to the local community. Planned measures include the installation of heat pumps and the replacement of halogen lights with LED systems.
“These measures will reduce CO₂ emissions by up to four times, save up to 40% in electricity, and increase energy efficiency by approximately 25%. Importantly, the project connects three cities and encourages cooperation and knowledge sharing,” said Ivan Szabo, Director of the Public Institution Sports Facilities Vukovar.
Tuzla: Mejdan Center in the Spotlight of Energy Renovation
In Tuzla, a tree was planted in front of the Mejdan Cultural and Sports Center, symbolizing the commencement of work to replace the deteriorated glass façade, which is over 40 years old. The City of Tuzla is the lead partner in this project.
“By replacing the glass façade at SKPC Mejdan, we will significantly improve energy efficiency and reduce heating costs. Tuzla is committed to modern, sustainable solutions that improve the quality of life for our citizens,” affirmed Esmir Spahić, Project Manager for the City of Tuzla.
