On 19 May the Monitoring Committee of the Interreg VI-A IPA Programme Croatia–Bosnia and Herzegovina–Montenegro 2021–2027 approved the co-financing of three Operations of Strategic Importance (OSI). The projects, with a total value of 30.8 million euro, will be funded with 85% through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and IPA III Fund.

A total of 22 project partners from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro will participate in the implementation of these three strategic Interreg projects, which are set to run over the next three to four years, depending on their individual implementation periods. Two of the three approved projects will have lead partner organisations from Croatia, and one will be led by a partner from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The approved strategic projects are as follows:

SATECON – Smart Agri Tech Connect

The lead partner for this project is the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, working alongside eight partner institutions. With a total value of 6.41 million euro, the project is implemented under Priority Axis 1 “Smart investments in research, innovation and competitive entrepreneurship”, Specific Objective 1.1 “Developing and enhancing research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies”.

Its primary aim is to empower the agricultural sector by establishing a sustainable framework for the systematic development of capacities and the adoption of smart technologies in agriculture.

INEREP – Inter-border Emergency Response Enhancement Project

Split-Dalmatia County serves as the lead partner, with five additional partner institutions from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. The total value of this project is 14.84 million euro. It is implemented under Priority Axis 2 “Green investments in environmental protection and efficient risk management”, Specific Objective 2.4 “Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system-based approaches”.

The overall objective is to reduce hazard risks and enhance environmental resilience by strengthening both the organizational and technical capacities of emergency services in fire protection and rescue, while also increasing public awareness and engagement in disaster preparedness.

LIFEGATE – Linking International Facilities for Early Detection and Global Access to Treatment and Evaluation

The lead partner for this project is the University Clinical Hospital Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), working with six additional partner institutions. With a total value of 9.55 million euro, this project is implemented under Priority Axis 3 “Accessible and resilient health services”, Specific Objective 4.5 “Ensuring equal access to health care and fostering resilience of health systems, including primary care, and promoting the transition from institutional to family and community-based care”.

Its main goal is to reduce mortality from cardiovascular and malignant diseases by improving access to all levels of healthcare.
